Here is another "sleeper" in the Philips Duo Series (2 CDs for the price of one), offering Antal Dorati's vivid performances of all four Tchaikovsky orchestral suites recorded in 1966 with the New Philharmonia Orchestra. The most famous of these is the Suite No. 4, Tchaikovsky's tribute to one of his favorite composers, Mozart. Collectors have long treasured the original LPs, and one can only wonder why Philips waited until 1996 to issue them on CD. At any rate, here they are, the standard for recordings of this music. For audio buffs, a good track to sample is the "Baroque Dance" from the Suite No. 2 (CD 1, track 11).
