THE COMPLETE RCA & SONY CLASSICAL ALBUM COLLECTION Evgeny Kissin (b. 1971) amazed the musical world when at the age of 11 he performed both of Chopin's concertos with the Moscow Philharmonic cond. by Dimitri Kitayenko. A remarkable feat indeed, and those performances are still in the catalog although they are not in this huge compilation, a 25-disk set of his RCA and Sony recordings. Kiss is the supreme virtuoso, and his rather modest stage demeanor are beguiling, far removed from the histrionic grimaces of Lang Liszt . He has concertized internationally and made numerous recordings for RCA and Sony, all included in this fine new set. This is a splendid issue, as far as it goes, and essential in any collection. It is surprising Kissin didn't record more Rachmaninoff. We do have Concerto No. 2 with Valery Gergiev, and Concerto No. 3 in a live Boston Symphony 1993 concert conducted by Seiji Ozawa. This is, to me, is his only disappointing recording. Later, Kissin performed this blockbuster concerto with fire and imagination; you can see a live phenomenal performance on YouTube. This mew set compilation contsins much Schumann, Chopin, Liszt and Beethoven, and several live recitals. You cam easily fiind contents on line. And keep in mind that Kissin recorded many disks for EMI as well. Don't overlook his Prokofiev Concertos 2 and 3 with Ashkenazy conducting (REVIEW), or his Beethoven concertos with Sir Colin Davis.
