You might label Henri Dutilleux (1916 - 2013) as an old-fashioned composer carrying on the tradition of earlier composers such as Debussy and Ravel, He wrote concertos for cello and violin, two symphonies. and many chamber works. Perhaps his best-known is Timbres, espace, mouvement written in 1978.This fascinating Chandos release begins with one of his better-known works, the ballet Le Loup "The Wolf." This was commissioned by Roland Petit in 1952, a beauty and the best story about the love of a girl with wolf explained in detail in program notes. The 29-minute ballet includes dances for all of the characters, often with traces of moderate jazz and Offenbach We also have three of the composers's works for solo winds and piano, the Sonatine for Flute written in 1943, the Sonate for Oboe composed in 1947, and Sarabande and Cortege originally for bassoon and piano. All of these are heard in orchestrations by Kenneth Hesketh. Adam Walker is soloist in the flute sonatine, Juliana Koch is oboist and Jonathan Davies is the bassoonist. John Wilson and the fine London orchestra do what can be done for this music, and the recording made January 2020 in London's St. Augustine Church, Kilburg, is presented in state-of-the-art multi-channel audio.

Young violinist Sueye Park already has two SACDs available, one a varied recital accompanied by pianist Love Derwinger (REVIEW), the other the Paganini Caprices (REIEW). Now we have another disk of music for solo violin featuring sonatas by Prokofiev and Weinberg and a wide variety of solo works by various composers all intended to display the virtuosity of the performer. The recordings weere made September 2019 in Germany's famous Jesus-Christus-Kirche, Berlin-Dahiem, and the BIS engineers have captured the Park sound in a resonant acoustic. Recommended.

BIS now offers Volume IV in their series of piano music of Eric Satie played by Noriko Ogawa. A previous issue in this series was mentioned on this site (REVIEW). In spite of Ogawa's sensitive playing and the crystalline audio BIS has provided, I imagine most collectors still would prefer the superb Jean-Yves Thibaudet Decca set (REVIEW)
