Russian pianist Denis Kozhukhin (b. 1986) , has made a number of recordings including the Grieg and Tchaikovsky First concertos, with the Berlin Radio Symphony directed by Vassily Sinaisky, unenthusiastically menioned on this site (REVIEW). He also has recorded music of Brahms, Haydn and Prokofiev. Now Pentatone has his new issue hat features three jazz-related early 20th Century masterpieces. this time with the Suisse Romnde Orchestra directed by Kazuki Yamada. There are a number of fine multi-channel recordings of this music, but this is the only one to combine all three. These are brilliant performances, and audio is excellent if not particular "surround". The recordings were made July 2017 in Geneva;s Victoria Hall. A fine release!

Highly respected Italian baroque harpsichordist Fabio Bonizzoni already has made a number of acclaimed recordings. In 1995, he founded La Risonanza, a period instrument group of varying size depending on score requirements. This is the first disk in a series of harpsichord concertos by Bach, 1, 2, 4 an 5, most of which are arrangements of earlier music. In these performances, La Risonanza consists of violinists Jorge Jimenez and Ulrike Slowik, violist Kristina Nagaraja, cellist Caterina Dell'Agnello, and Nicola Dal Maso, violone. Recordings were made August 2017 in the Parish Church in San Sonato in Polenta. Engineers have provided a very close- but well-balanced sound, with the soloist among the ensemble.

Calefax is a group of reed instrument players, virtuosos all, who present a wide variety of music in their own arrangements. Members are Oliver Boekhoorn (Oboe, Cor Anglaise, Tin Whistle); Ivar Berix (Clarinet); Roof Hekkema (Soprano and Alto Saxophones); Jelte Aithuis (Bass Clarinet); and Alban Wesly (Bassoon). They often play commissioned works composed various combinaions of their instruments, and many of these are featured on this fine new release. Most of this music will be new to most listeners. Repertory ranges from baroque to contemporary. The recording was made January / February 2017 in Haarlem's Doopsgezinde Church, and audio is natural and well-balanced This is very pleasant listening for those in a quieter mood.
