About eight years ago, DGG issued a six-CD set of Pierre Boulez's Cleveland Orchestra recordings of music of Debussy and Ravel. It included La Mer, Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, Printemps, Jeux, Nocturnes and Premiere Rhapsodie fo Clarinet and Orchestra. All of these were recorded in Severance Hall 1991 - 1993. Now Sony has issued all of the conductor's earlier Debussy recordings. Images and Danses were recorded in Cleveland November 1967; other works were recorded in London 1966 - 1968. We also have Boulez's complete recording of Pelléas et Mélisande recorded December 1969 - January 1970 i EMI's Abbey Road Studio. Pristine performances as one would expect, excellent stereo sound. This is a super-budget reissue with no accompanying booklet, no program notes or texts. This is a valuable addition to the catalog restoring these early important Boulez recordings.

Michael Tilson Thomas always was a champion of music of Charles Ives and collectors welcomed his 19 1981 - 198 recordings with the Royal Concertgebouw orchestra. Then, in 86 and 1989 he made more recordings, and in San Francisco in 1999 he recorded many other relatively unknown works. Now al of these are gathered together in thus budget issue all remastered and sounding better than ever. This is another budget issue with program notes, no texts. Tthis is another welcome reissue. The Amsterdam orchestra has made two other Ives recordings: Bryant's orchestration of the Concord Sonata with conductor Dennis Russell Davos, and Three Places in New England conducted by John Adams.

American conductor David Zihman (b. 1936 in Broklyn) has had a remarkable concareer He has been music director of several orchestras incuyding the Baltimore Symphony (1983 - 1998) and the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra (1995 - 2014). He has nade numerous recirdubgs, many during his Switzerland tenure incuding all of the symphonies of Beethoven and Mahler. This new issue contains all of his recordings of nusic of Richard Srauss, most of the major work, but no music from the operas. We also have a superb Four Last Songs with the remarkable German soprano Melanie Deiner, the Oboe Concerto with Simon Fuchs, the seldom-heard Parergon, Op 73 with pianist Roland Pöntinen, and Don Quixote with celist Thomas Grossenbacher and violist MMichel Rouilly. Grossenbacher also isfeatured in the Romance in F. All recordings were made 2000 - 2003 in Zurich's Tonhale, and audio throughout is state-of-the-art. This is a bare-bones presentation. No program notes, no text for the lieder. But it is super-budget price and does contain some items collectorss might not otherwise have.
